Many of you wonder what make us human…why are we human? I would say that what makes us human is the potential that we have.. and that potential is recursive. I believe that everyone’s life is full of potential. For example, toddlers tries to stand up and walk by themselves. They cannot just stand up and walk, they have to keep practicing it. They keep failing in the beginning, but never give up. This recursive practice will increase their potential. When they reach their potential, it is not the end. There are many other things that they want to achieve as they grow. As long as we are alive, our potential is infinite. Our joy, excitement, happiness all come from our potential. Some people may even not recognize how much of potential they have. Potential is just in you, and you need to figure it out.

Recursiveness is a kind of function that we can predict some property happens one or more times, like repeating. Birnbaum relates recursiveness with infinite by providing examples about “potential.” He argues that “POTENTIAL, as we define it, is recursive.” He continues that “the power of Q4P (Quest for Potential) hinges on its (infinite) recursiveness.” Let’s say.. recursion can possible be demonstrated by an example of human beings. According to bible, Adam and Eve are the first human beings in this world, so our ancestors may be the same, Adam and Eve. Their children’s children’s children’s children’s….. infinitely counted, children’s might be me… or you… all of us. Birnbaum points out that “an entity or theme repeating within itself…. indefinitely…..is a key cosmic theme.” I think that’s why the universe exists and we, humans, exist.

Birnbaum provides another example: infinite Potential. He insists that “Potential within Potential within Potential ad infinitum.” We are all infinitely potential. People try to be a better and better persons everyday. We observes, conduct, and seek  indefinitely  the potential power. Birnbaum insists that “Another way of looking at this is always assuming Q4P to mean – Q4P to the power-of-infinity.” Recursive potential power helps us reach highest potential.

많은 사람들은 아마 무엇이 사람을 만드는지 궁금해 한다. 나는 우리가 가지고있는 잠재력이 사람을 만든다고 생각한다. 이 잠재성은 반복적이다. 예를들어 걸음마를 배우는 아이들은 처음에는 아마 아예 서있거나 걷지를 못한다. 그 아이들은 매일 걷는 것을 연습한다. 처음에는 계속 넘어지고 실퍃지만, 아이들은 포기하지 않고 끈임없이 노력한다. 그아이들이 걸을수 있는 잠재성을 얻었다고 해서 그것이 끝이 아니다. 그 아이들은 수많은 또다른 잠재성을 찾아갈것이다. 내가 생각하기에는 사람이 살아있는 동안에는 우리는 무한한 잠재성을 찾으려고 할것이다. 우리의 기쁨, 흥미, 그리고 행복은 모두 잠재성에서 시작된다고 나는 생각한다. 어떤 사람들은 아마 우리가 잠재성을 가지고있다라는 조차를 모를수도 있다. 잠재성은 그냥 우리 안에 있고 우리가 그것을 찾아 나가야된다.

반복적임은 한번 또는 그 이상으로 연속적으로 무엇이일어 난것을 예상할수 있는 것이다. 범바움은 반복을 무한함과 연결시켜, 잠재성을 설명한다. 그는 “잠재성은 반복적이다. 잠재성에 대한 질문은 무한적으로 반복된다”라고 말한다. 반복적인것을 아주 오래전으로 돌아가서 사람의 형성을 말해보자… 성경에 의하면, 아담과 이브는 이 우주에서 아주 처음의 사람들이다. 그의 아이들의 아이들의 아이들의 아이들의 아이들… 계속 반복적으로 가다보면, 아이들은 당신이고 나고, 우리일것이다. 범바움은 “이것안에서 계속 반복되는 것 자체… 무한적으로…가 이 우주의 주제이고 중요한 포인트이다”라고 말한다. 나는 그말에 동의한다. 그것이 우주구 있고 사람이 생존하는 이유라고 생각한다.

범바움은 또다른 예를 설명한다. 그는 잠재성안에 잠재성안에 잠재성안에 잠재성이 존재한다고 설명한다 .우리 모두는 무한한 잠재성을 가지고있고 우리는 매일 더 나은 사람으로 성장하려고 노력한다. 우리는 관찰하고, 수행하고 무한적으로 잠재성의 힘을 찾는다. 범바움은 “다른방법으로 본다면 Q4P이다” 라고 설명란다. Q4P는 무한한 힘이다. 반복되는 잠재성의 힘은 아마 우리가 아주 높은 곳의 잠재성에 도달할수 있도록 도와주는것 일것이다.

I used to think that we cannot control over our brainpower, because I studied a lot on some science subjects during college. But I still did not get good grades. Because of that experience during college, I gradually think that intelligence is genetic and people can try to train to be smarter, but actually they cannot be smarter and better. Once I stopped studying for a month, then I just could not follow any of the lecture. There are some people who always skip classes and go to parties during finals, but they still do well on tests. I think that’s their genetics. They just can remember things easily than the others.

Well, now I disagree with what I used to think…
Birnbaum describes that “Leveraging (infinite) POTENTIALS down-the-road (forward towards infinity) to energize the ‘present.'”
Everyone has their own potentials, and they should use that potentials to enhance their lives. I agree with potentials energizing the present.

For examples, Those kids who have autism still have potentials. My friend has three kids. They are 5 years old, 4years old, and 2 years old. Unfortunately, three of them have autism. However, my friend does not give up on training them. Although it is very expensive, demanding, and sad, he still tries to give them the best training and education that he can give to them. The 5 years old boy has had infantile autism and he has been getting much better. I agree with Birnbaum’s saying, “Encapsulization: Potentials down-the-road energize the PRESENT (and initially ignited CREATION itself).” The 5 year old boy has been overcoming autism and created himself to a better person.

내가 대학시절, 과학과목을 열심히 공부했지만, 성적이 잘 나오지 않아서,  우리의 뇌지능을 우리가 지배할수는 없다고 생각했다. 대학시절 성적이 잘 나오지 안았기 때문에, 나는 지능은 부모님으로부터 물려받는것이지, 그것을 억지로 내가 스스로 올릴수는 없다고 생각했다. 내가 한달동안 공부를 안 했을경우, 나의 성적은 확 떨어졌다. 이것이 확실이 그것을 증명한듯하다 . 어떤 학생들은 수업을 잘 가지안아도, 기말고사때 파티를 가고 실컷 놀아도 성적이 잘나오는 학생들이 있다. 그러한 학생들은 유전적으로 부모님들로 부터 좋은 뇌지능을 받은것이라고 생각했다.

하지만, 나는 내가 그렇게 말하고했던것에 더이상 동의하지 않는다. 범바움은 “무한한 잠재성을 끝까지 앞으로 무한성으로 연결시킨다면 그것이 현재에 활기를 불어넣을 것이다”라고 말한다. 모든 사람들은 그 사람만의 독특한 잠재성이 있고 나는 그 잠재성이 현재에 활력을 불어일으킨다는 것을 믿는다.

예를들어, 자폐증을 가지고 태어난사람들도 여전히 잠재성을 가지고있다. 내 친구는 3 명의 아이가 있다. 5살짜리, 4살짜리, 그리고 2살짜리 아이들을 가지고있다. 하지만 세명 모두다 자폐증을 가지고있다. 하지만 내 친구는 자식들에게 트레이닝을 주는것을 포기하지 않는다. 비싸고, 엄청난 노력이 필요하고, 슬프기는 하지만 내 친구는 포기하지 않고 자기 자식들의 잠재성을 믿는다. 자신이 최대한 줄수있는 만큼 또는 그 보다 더한 훈련과 교육을 자식들에게 제공한다. 그 자식들중 한명 5살짜리 아이는 태어날때부터 자폐증이있었는데, 많은 교육을 통해 훨씬 좋아졌다. 나는 범바움이 말하는 “잠재성은 현재에 활기를 불어넣을 것이고. 그것은 그것자체가 무엇을 만들것이다”라는 말에 동의한다. 그 5살짜리 아이는 자폐증을 극복하고 있는중이고 또다른 그를 만들어가는 중이다.

We live in a life of “infinitely”  multi-potentiality. Whatever we do has a potential although we fail or not. There is no beginning or the end. We keep setting a goal and expectation, and try to achieve what we really want in life.  Birnbaum demonstrates that “infinitely-coiled spiraling is the favorite infinity-tool in the Tool Kit.” I think that everyone’s life could be complex like “a coiled spirality.”

However Birnbaum comments that “the cosmos is more like an infinitely coiled – and expanding – and regenerating – spiral spring.” This explains how one’s life is. We expand our goals, regenerate our significant interest in different subjects. Everyone has different perspective in life. I remember when I was in college, if anyone said their major was art, music and some kind of sports, people would tend to judge them, wondering what kind of future their major would lead them to. However, every major and study are important. Who knows if those who majored in art and music became a world-famous artist. We should not judge people like that. Everyone’s poetentials are significant and we should respect them.

Birnbaum illustrates “coiled spirality” as the “cosmic highway.” Highway is such a long road and people drive variously ranging 60 miles to 90 miles per hour. Everyone has different speed and different ways to run on the highway. We should be patient and we should not be influenced by other drivers. Some people are slow and that does not mean that they are not successful. We all eventually arrive at the place we wanted to go no matter what speed we drive.

우리는 무한한 멀티 잠재성의 삶을 살고있다. 우리가 하는것이 무엇이던간에, 실패하거나 말거나, 잠재성을 가지고있다. 그 잠재성에 시작과 끝은 없다. 우리는 목표와 기대치를 만들고 항상 그것을 얻으려고 노력한다. 범바움은 “무한한 코일의 노선들은 가장 선호되는 무한한 툴 이다”라고 설며안다. 나는 우리의 모든 삶이 “코일의 노선”들과같이 복잡할수도 있다고 생각한다.

하지만, 범바움은 “코스모는 무한한 코일, 즉 넓혀지고, 다시 재생되는, 나선의 스프링이다”라고 말한다. 이것이 우리의 삶을 설명한다. 우리는 목표를 세우고 다른 주제에대해 우리의 관심을 재생성한다 .내가 대학교를 다닐적에, 만약 누군가가 전공이 예술, 음악, 스포츠라고 말하면, 사람들은 그들에게 눈초리를 주곤했다. 그런 전공들공부하면 나중에 무슨 직업을 가질수있을까 하고말이다. 하지만, 우리는 그런 모든 공부들이 잠재성을 가지고있다는 것을 이해해야한다. 그리고 우리는 그들을 존중해야한다. 그들이 세계에서 아주 유명한 음악가, 미술가, 예능가가 될지 누가 아는가.

범바움은 코일의 나선을 우주의 고속도로라고 표현한다. 고속도로는 아주 긴 도로이고 사람들은 가지각색의 스피도 60마일에서 90마일 사이로 운전을 한다. 각각의 사람마다 운전하는 형태와 속도가 다 다르다. 만약 당신이 조금 늦게 운전한다고 해서 빠르게 운전하는 사람들에게 영향을 미칠 필요가 없다. 조금 늦게 간다고 해서 실패하는것이 아니다. 결국 우리는 우리가 도착하고싶은 곳에 궁극적으로는 다 도착하기 때문이다.

God made both genders, man and woman. I think that when God first created two genders, He probably had His own idea of man and woman. Birnbaum says that “Masculine / Feminine components of the cosmos are in dynamic tension an / or engagement.” Each individuals are important and unique. God made two genders so that this universe does not lean to one side, but is parallel; “masculine and feminine.” Not all the men are alike and not every women are alike. Everyone has different characters. Within each sex has variations, but if you think about differences between these two genders, you will find even larger variations.

Birnbaum mentions that “a component may push from a metaphysical level, while it pulls from a reality realm.” I understand it as when God created us, He had an idea of two sex, man and woman; masculinity and femininity. Each woman has her own way of showing femininity, and each man has his unique way of representing masculinity. I think that both the masculine and feminine have to work together “simultaneously” for this world to evolve to reach the “further-out potential realm,” which Birnbaum mentions on page 90.

When I face reality,  I have realized that there are some things that woman cannot do herself. For example, when I was moving to a different apartment, I could not life heavy furniture, so I had to call a moving company. The employees at the moving company, who came to help me move my furniture were all men, not that the company is biased. It is just that men have more strength than women to carry heavy things. I do not see it as stereotypes, but something deeper than that. Birnbuam says that “Push from one dimension, and pull from another realm.” I comprehend it as men and women both have to help each other to push and pull. It does not mean that only men push from one dimension and only women pull from another realm, or vice versa.

신은 남자와 여자 두 성을 창조했다. 나는 신이 처음 두 성을 창조했을때, 그는 아마 남자와 여자에대한 그의 만의 이미지를 가지고있었을거라고 생각한다. 범바움은 “남성적/여성적 우주의 복합체를 다이나믹한 긴장감과 연관성”이라고 표현한다. 각각의 개인은 그들만의 중요성과 독특함을 가지고있다. 신은 이 두 성을 창조해서 한쪽으로 너무 기울어 지지 않도록 하기위해서 이러한 이미지를 창조하신것 같다. “남성적과 여성적.” 모든 남자들이 다 같지 않고, 모든 여자들이 다 같지 않다. 모두가 각각의 다른 캐릭터를 가지고있다. 그리고 남자와 여자가 다르다고 당신은 생각하겠지만, 심지어 그 성 안에서도 다양성이 있다.

범바움은 “복합체는 아마 메타피지카 레벨에서 밀수도 있고, 반면 현실의 안에서 당길수도있다.”라고 말한다. 나는 이것은 신이 우리를 창조했을때, 그는 두개의 성에대한 아이디어, 즉 여자와 남자 그리고 남성스러움과 여성스러움을 가지고있었다고 생각한다. 각각의 여성은 그들만의 여성스러움을 표현하는 방법이있고, 각각의 남성들은 그들만의 남성스러움을 표현한다. 나는 남성스러움과 여성스러움 모두가 동시에 존재해서 작동해야한다고 생각한다. 그래야 이 세상이 움직있을것같다. 범바움은 책 페이지 90쪽에서 “더 멀리나간 잠재적인 공간”이라고 표현한다.

내가 현실을 직면했을때 나는 가끔 여자 혼자서 스스로는 할수 없는 일이 있다고 생각한다. 예를들어, 내가 다른 아파트로 이사를 할떄, 나는 모든 가구를 나 혼자서 들수가 없었다. 그래서 나는 이삿짐 회사에 연락을 했어야 했다. 그 이삿짐회사에서 일하는 사람들은 모두 남자들이었다. 내가 남자 여자에대해 편견을 가지자고 이 이야기를 시작한것은 아니다. 나의 관점은 여자가 할일이 있고, 남자가 할일이 있으며, 신체적 구조때문에 여자가 하지못하는 일은 남자들이 도와야한다. 나의 포인트는 여자 남자가 잘 이 세상에 서로 도우며 공존해야 한다고 생각한다.
